Process Diary
Lynda week 3
Dear Diary,
This week I’m learning how to keep my website safe. With all of the spam and hacks and web threats out there today it’s important to make a wordpress site as secure as possible. There are lots of way to do this. Read these Q&A’s to find out more:
- How can you manage spam on your site? In the comment area you have a spam folder that you can manage. You can also add comments to the spam folder if they look suspicious.
- Why is it important to keep WordPress up to date? Updates are made constantly to help keep new viruses/spam/hackers away and keeping your site updated help to protect it from the newest bad guys on the street.
- List three plugins you can use to improve security and explain what each plugin does. 1. Cloudflare – It kinda holds some of the website in the cloud so your website performance is boosted and it protects from threats adding extra security 2. Vaultpress – It is a real-time backup and security scanning service 3. Jetpack – This does a little of everything, SEO, drives traffic, adds security and backups, as well as easy to add slideshows and sidebars etc.
- If your site crashes, how can you determine if it is a broken theme issue or a plugin issue? The crash would happen immediately after it was activated so you would know if you just activated it. Also the white screen of death would come up if it was a bad theme, whereas wordpress would warn you if you try to activate a bad plugin.
I know…screen of death! Oh my goodness, right?! But at least I know that if any of these things happen there are ways to recover from them if I take as many precautions as I can.
Well, I gotta run, more later Diary!
